Heavy Rains Bring Flooding to Mountain Island Lake

May 7, 2013 — Days of heavy rain in the Catawba River basin have pushed Mountain Island Lake out of its banks, submerging some docks and spilling water far into yards. As of Tuesday morning, Duke Energy reported Mountain Island at 103.3. One of the flood gates at Cowan’s Ford has been partially opened and water continues to rise.

Boaters are encouraged to stay off the lake, due to danger from floating debris. Also, wake from boats will create further damage to shoreline property.
